The Women and Child Empowerment: Health and Sanitation Improvement Project has been operating in Khandadevi Rural Municipality with the financial support of PSF Luxembourg since April 2025.

Implemented across 6 wards of the rural municipality (Wards 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9), the main objective of the project is to empower women, children, and youth. This ensures they can take the lead in making health services quality and effective, increase access to available services, and bring about an overall improvement in health and sanitation conditions.

To achieve this, the project focuses on the following 5 key areas:

  1. Enhancing Healthcare Delivery

Improving the quality and effectiveness of health services provided by health institutions through:

  • Upgrading physical infrastructure.
  • Providing essential medicines and equipment.
  • Conducting capacity building and human resource development for health workers.
  • Supporting the formulation and implementation of health sector periodic plans.
  • Increasing community-level public awareness.
  1. Combating Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)

Supporting the regular screening, identification, and treatment of non-communicable diseases by:

  • Conducting community-level health camps.
  • Supporting specialized services at the municipal hospital.
  • Raising public awareness regarding prevention and care.
  1. School Health and Environment
  • Establishing and delivering first-aid services in schools.
  • Improving the overall environment and sanitation of school premises.
  1. Community Empowerment

Empowering women, children, and youth to strengthen them institutionally. This involves:

  • Forming and mobilizing women’s, children’s, and youth groups.
  • Conducting capacity-building and awareness programs focused on reproductive health, NCDs, and sanitation.
  • Conducting advocacy and lobbying on women’s rights and related issues.
  1. Sanitation Improvement

Improving the overall sanitation condition of the municipality by:

  • Supporting the operation of water supply schemes.
  • Managing institutional waste.
  • Implementing total sanitation campaigns.
  • Supporting the formulation and execution of the Rural Municipality’s WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) plan.
